A dark and controversial work of contemporary political theatre about pollution.
Sheffield’s own unique cult of nihilistic, political, anarcho-theatre makers – Doppelgangster – bring a very special performance work to the SHU Performance Lab stage for Off-the-Shelf Festival 2019. This spellbinding juggernaut features violent comic riffs, rapid-fire physical spectacles, an exceptional young ensemble, and a collection of new and appropriated texts ranging from raging panic to doom-laden rituals. CHOKE ME is a production, as pioneering as it is a Pandora’s Box.
Doppelgangster is an international performance company, currently creating work in the UK and Australia under the creative direction of Tobias Manderson-Galvin (MKA Theatre of New Writing, Melbourne) and Dr Tom Payne (Sheffield Hallam University). Choke Me is co-created by Tobias Manderson-Galvin and Dr Tom Payne, performed by students from the BA (hons) Acting and Performance at Sheffield Hallam University. Featuring choreography by Sarah April Lamb and an original score by Australian jazz musician Jules Pascoe.
